Has anyone out there ever heard of Positive Life? I was there yesterday filming and interviewing people affected with the virus for my short video documentary. The staff and volunteers are amazing.
Positive Life is a charity that supports and promotes positive living for people with and affected by HIV in Northern Ireland. The charity has been making a difference to the quality of people’s lives for over 25 years now. There is a confidential 24 hours helpline and readily available volunteers who are ready to listen without any judgement.
The centre is trying to de-stigmatise HIV in Northern Ireland by ensuring those affected are treated with respect, dignity and live healthy lives.
The centre also offers free training and education to members of the public who are directly or indirectly affected by HIV. The first thing I noticed when I visited the centre is the smiles on people’s faces. You are treated with respect and dignity at Positive Life regardless of your situation.
For those interested in volunteering somewhere but have not yet made up their mind, well Positive Life is the place to give your time. Volunteers are involved in various ways such as helping out occasionally at flag days and fundraising events or more regular volunteering such as running the reception desk and handling confidential helpline calls.
